“Raphael Panel”
The inspiration for this panel is from Raphael's oil painting
of the "Sistine Madonna" circa 1513. The Virgin and Child are
framed by Saints Sixtus and Barbara. Many of us will recognize
the two putti (or cherubs), at the base of the design, often
seen reproduced in popular culture. For this piece, I have gathered
the subjects closer together to fill the composition and added
the Gothic framing. The scrimshaw is created on elephant ivory
that is framed in ebony and wrapped in aged copper. |
